Ruth Hagemann - Knotwood Forest Owner
Our very own Heartland!
We purchased the farm 'Tower Hill" in 2005 and began clearing the thick bush soon after that. The farm was bought because of its potential for mining dolerite and forestry. The late Ken Hagemann, Roy's father, set about planting pine and eucalyptus saplings in earnest. The farm is now mostly covered in trees! Roy and I have a great love and respect for trees and nature, and it's our privilege to be stewards of the forests, grasslands and dams.
In 2016 our daughter expressed her wish to get married in the forest. We excitedly set about preparing a ceremony venue. And so, our journey of hosting weddings began in December of that year.
Knotwood Forest was born!
Shortly after this wonderful event, we built the restrooms and cleared spaces among the trees for picnic receptions. At this time Knotwood began an exciting relationship with photographers and their clients, with beautiful people coming through our farm gate to enjoy the serenity and beauty of simplicity and captivating atmosphere. The soothing of the forest influences the joy of creativity and memory-making.
Our cabin followed next with the building taking place during the covid years. It was a long and sometimes tedious DIY journey but we welcomed our first bridal party with relief and joy! All the hours of felling trees, preparing the logs, building cupboards, chairs and tables etc., sewing linens and painting were all very worthwhile!
Felling some trees gave us room to develop a lawned terrace, and my dream of having a long swing in the trees came to fruition in 2022!
Coming to Knotwood one enters a stress-free zone, and one leaves with invigorated senses, soothed and refreshed!
